The Veggie Lady

This weekend, hubby told me he had a groupon for The Veggie Lady who lives in Spring, Texas.  The Veggie Lady is a small farmer’s market that sells everything from free-range, pasture-raised eggs to different squashes, fruits, and vegetables that are low (or free of) in pesticides and local as can be.

Marilee is The Veggie Lady, and immediately we hit it off, swapping stories of brain injury recovery.  Turns out that she survived being hit by lightning, had an aneurysm and a stroke.  Her website also says she survived three different types of cancer.  We talked about the things that we’ve been through.  I shared with her how frustrating it was to not be able to talk for six months.  Turned out she had similar issues.  We then talked about different fruits and vegetables in season.

We made out with lots of goodies.  Fresh squash, butternut squash, Vidalia onions, grapes, pineapple, cage-free eggs, and homemade salsa were just a few of the things we bought.  We even ran into a lady there that makes her own chocolate (of course, I sampled that too).  It feels good to eat local.  We eat vegetarian twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) so it’ll be interesting to see what I come up with this week!
